Wayne Nicholas, 81, of Emporia, Kansas, died on August 13, 2012 at the Holiday Resort Care Center, Emporia.

Wayne was born on October 25, 1930 in Emporia, the son of William Harold and Lucile Hattie Watkins Nicholas. He married Nina Blevins on July 29, 1985 in Miami, Oklahoma. She survives of the home.

Other survivors include: mother, Lucile Hattie Talbard of Emporia; son, Ron Nicholas of Emporia; stepson, Richard Mallory of Fair Grove, Missouri; daughter, Tereza Grimes of Bryan, Texas; stepdaughter, Cindy Mallory of Holton, Kansas; sisters, Freida Rickabaugh of Wichita, Kansas, and Phyllis Pointer of Independence, Missouri; four grandsons; two granddaughters; and one great-grandson.

He is preceded in death by his first wife, his father, and an infant child.

From November 1951 to November 1955, Wayne served in the United States Air Force. Following his time in the Air Force, he came home and was a bull rider, a saddle bronc rider, and farmed his parents land south of Emporia. In the early 1980’s, Wayne drove a truck for P and H Trucking in Emporia, and then Flat Land Trucking with his wife. He retired in December of 2000.

Cremation is planned with a private inurnment at Greenwood Cemetery, south of Emporia. Memorial contributions to Hand in Hand Hospice may be sent in care of Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.
