Wayne E. Proehl

Wayne E. Proehl, 91, Emporia, Kansas, formerly of Americus, passed away at the Emporia Presbyterian Manor on Sunday, June 9, 2019.

Wayne was born on December 29, 1927, in Americus, Kansas, the son of William and Bertha (Newton) Proehl.  He married Donna Johnson at Americus, Kansas on March 25, 1951. She died on October 1, 2016.

Wayne started his working life farming on his farm north of Americus. He retired from Didde Web Press after working there for over 20 years. He loved music and played music all his life. He was a long time member of Kansas Fiddlers and Pickers.  He formed and played in his own band, Flint Hills Cousins. He also loved classic cars, entering his cars in many local car shows and parades

He is survived by his sons;  Randall Proehl (Gayla), Emporia, Roger Proehl (Angela), Las Vegas, NV, Jon Proehl (Kelli), Emporia, daughters; Lesta Vergouven (Ben), Emporia, Joyce England (Rick), Wichita, and Martha Brooks, Emporia, Thirteen grandchildren, and Ten great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his wife, parents, one sister, and two brothers, and son-in-law; Gary Brooks.

Funeral services will be held at the Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia, on Friday, June 14, 2019 at 10:00 A.M.  The service will be conducted by Betty Brown, lay Pastor, Americus Presbyterian Church. Burial will follow in the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday evening from 6:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
