William A. “Bill” Long, Columbia, South Carolina, died at his home on Wednesday, December 15, 2010. He was 63.
  
  
  William A. Long was born at Halstead, Kansas on December 28, 1946, the son of Melvin A “Shorty” and Delores E. (Ehler) Long. He married, and later divorced, Inez Davis Long.
  
  
  Surviving family members include: his mother, Delores, of Emporia, Kansas; sister, Melva Swanson and her husband, Monte, of Wichita, Kansas; niece, Michelle Garcia and her daughters, Ashley and Kacie of Bloomington, Illinois; and nephew, Mark A. Swanson, U.S. Army, Fort Lewis, Washington.
  
  
  He was preceded in death by his father.
  
  
  Mr. Long was a Certified Public Accountant, having retired in July of this year. He was a graduate of Roosevelt High School, and Emporia State University, both in Emporia, Kansas. He had been a resident of South Carolina the past 35 years.
  
  
  A memorial service will be held at 3 p.m. Monday, December 27, 2010 at the First Congregational Church in Emporia. The Rev. Gary Gooszen will conduct the service. Mr. Long was cremated.
