William B. “Bill” Brooks, 87, Emporia, Kansas, died at his home on Monday, November 29, 2010.
William B. Brooks was born at Emporia, Kansas on April 30, 1923, the son of Clyde J. and Grace L. (Harris) Brooks. He married Marie Elizabeth Mietchen February 3, 1946 in Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia. She survives of the home.
Other family members include: daughters (and spouses), Becky (Harold) Stapp, Mulvane, Kansas; Joanna (Dallas) Sedgwick, Emporia, Kansas; Lisa (Robert) Litch, Melvern, Kansas; Dora (Melvin) Hartig, Emporia, Kansas; sons (and Spouses), Bill (Debby) Brooks, Tom (Terri) Brooks, and Mike (Sandra) Brooks, all three in Emporia; sister, Clydean Campbell and her husand Buck, Eureka, Kansas.
He was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Anita Ewing; grandson, Brian Jurgens; four Sisters, Marquerite Harris, Emily Houseman, Judy Kelly, and Letha Lawrence.
Bill was a Firefighter with the Emporia Fire Department for 29 years, retiring in 1979. He served in the United States Army in World War II, and was a member of Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion.
Mr. Brooks was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus, both in Emporia, Kansas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Emporia, on Thursday, December 2, 2010at 10:30 A.M. Mass will be celebrated by Father Richard Warsnak of the church. Interment will be in the Sacred Heart Cemetery, with Military Graveside Honors by Lowry-Funston Post #1980, Veterans of Foreign Wars and Ball-McColm Post #5, American Legion.
The Rosary will be recited at the church Wednesday evening at 7:00 P.M. The family will receive friends following the Rosary.
