He leaves his wife of 57 years, Bonnie (Wheat) Martin; his son, Jeff Martin and his wife Carla Martin; his daughter, Brenda Boyce and her husband Randy Boyce; his daughter, Kelly Schorgl and her husband Francis Schorgl; his brother, Robert Martin; brother-in-law, Monte Pete Wheat and his wife Jane Wheat; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren and many close friends.

Born and raised in Herington, Kansas, the son of Mervin and Erna Martin. In his early years (as young as 10 yrs old), Bill would trap wildlife and sell skins in St. Louis to help support his family. Bill always loved fishing, and hunting. After graduating from Herington High School he went to college at Kansas State University and helped farm his parents homestead.

He met his wife Bonnie Elaine Wheat, at a high school rodeo where they were both all around cowboy and cowgirl for the state of Kansas. After Bill married Bonnie, he ranched cows and calves for Wheat Cattle Company, then moved on to become a commodity broker for Heinhold Commodities. He truly relished the friends he made during his time in business and retired at the age of 65 and moved to Florida for the winter months in Haines City, Florida. An avid golfer, he was on the Emporia Country Club Golf Committee. Bill won the Emporia Country Club golf Championship, and the Emporia Municipal Golf Championship and was a member of Grenelefe Country Club in Haines City, Florida. He was fortunate enough to have 3 hole in ones!

He was on the Emporia Country Club golf committee, the Lyon County fair board, and a shriner in Allen, Kansas where he enjoyed helping children especially during the Shrine Circus years.

Bill was a friend to all and had a wonderful sense of humor. We will all miss him dearly
