William Stewart Finney, Sr., 89, of Emporia died on Sunday, July 19, 2015, at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
William was born on March 24, 1926 near Americus in the Fruitland Community on Sunny Knob Farm, the son of Elmer Clayton and Evelyn Marie Viles Finney. He married Wilma Nadine Pritchard on August 31, 1947 in Dunlap, Kansas at the bride’s home. They were married 67 years. She survives.
Other survivors include: son, William Stewart Finney, Jr. and wife Carrie of Emporia; daughter, Wilma Jeanne (Dawes) Schmidt and husband Danny of Olpe, Kansas; brother, Clayton Finney of Council Grove, Kansas; sister, Roberta Lewis of Dunlap, Kansas; grandchildren, Jason Dawes of Emporia, and Mendy Ramos of Guymon, Oklahoma; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brevin, and Jacyn Dawes, Nicholas, Tiana, Gabrielle, and Isabelle Ramos; one great-great grandson.
He is preceded in death by his brothers, Charles Finney and Gene Finney; and sisters, Eleanor Hickman and Mary Elizabeth Sowers.
William was a lifelong farmer and stockman until he retired five years ago. He was a member of the Americus Presbyterian Church.
Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Thursday, July 23, 2015 at the Americus Presbyterian Church, Americus, with burial following at Rosean Cemetery, Emporia. Visitation will be from 6:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M., Wednesday evening at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia.
