William W. Jones

Emporia

William W. Jones of the Emporia Presbyterian Manor died on Thursday, April 1, 2020 at Stormont Vail Hospital in Topeka, Kansas at the age of 101.

Bill was born on March 13, 1920 in Lawrence County, Missouri the son of King M. and Bessie M. Rose Jones.  He married Fern M. Griffiths on February 10, 1945 in Detroit, Michigan.  She died on November 4, 2006 in Emporia, Kansas.

Surviving family members include: children, Robert W. (Dona) Jones of Emporia, Renee Jones of Melbourne, Florida, Debra A. (Ed) Stevens of Denville, New Jersey; sisters, Viola Blum of Kalamazoo, Michigan, Mary Noble of Danbury, Connecticut, and Doris Drake of Okemos, Michigan; seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his wife, and sister Ina Kilbourne.

Mr. Jones was a World War II veteran serving as a B-24 pilot flying combat assigned to the 15 th Air Force located in Italy.  He graduated with a bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in Chemical Engineering.  He worked 40 years as a chemical engineer in the paper and chemical industry.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2021 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home.  The family will greet friends and family an hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow at the Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
