William Joseph Medlen, 61, rural Emporia, Kansas, died Monday, February 21, 2011 at his home.
  
  
  He was born at Bartlesville, Oklahoma on July 12, 1949, the son of Floyd and Margaret Little Medlen. He married Glenda Lee Belt at Emporia, Kansas June 19, 1973. She survives of the home.
  
  
  Other surviving family members include: a son, Nathan A. Medlen, Emporia, Kansas; three daughters, Amy D. Martinez, Brandy L. Solis, and Ashley Medlen, all of Emporia; brothers, Robert, John, and Rick Medlen, all of Oklahoma; a sister, Margaret “Sally” Bishop, Dewey, Oklahoma; and five grandchildren, Sianna K. Patel, Jordan W. Solis, Tiana L. Martinez, Tessa M. Martinez, and Gage A. Medlen.
  
  
  Mr. Medlen was a mechanic for U.S.D. #253 and was retired. He was a Marine Corps Veteran, serving from 1969 until 1972.
  
  
  Cremation is planned. Services will be held at a later date. A memorial has been established with the Hand In Hand Hospice; contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
