Wilma Jean Bixler, 93, of Emporia, Kansas, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor Health Center.
She was born In Allen, Kansas on December 21, 1919, the daughter of Jeff and Helen Echols Wheat. Wilma graduated from Allen High School and attended Emporia State. She married Hugo Bixler on May 5, 1938. He died December 12, 1992.
Wilma was preceded in death by her husband; daughter, Vicki Schutte; and sister, Virginia Renker.
Surviving family members include son, Mike Bixler and wife, Candy, of Mabank, Texas; granddaughter, Megan Brisendine and husband, Jason, of Allen, Texas; great grandson, Colby Brisendine of Allen, Texas; sister, Dorothy Goldsberry, of Emporia; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Wilma was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, the Newman Regional Health Auxiliary, and a member of the First Congregational Church. During her children’s school years, she was active in a number of school organizations, including PTA and scouting groups. She was an avid fisherman, a horse enthusiast, and a loyal KU basketball fan.
A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
Memorials have been established with Presbyterian Manor, or Hand in Hand Hospice. Contributions may be sent in care of the funeral home.
