Wilma Nadine Pritchard Finney, 86, of Emporia, died on Thursday, November 19, 2015 at Emporia Presbyterian Manor.
Wilma was born June 29, 1929 near Dunlap, Kansas, at her grandparent’s house, as her grandmother was a midwife. She was the firstborn of Wilber Alonzo and Mabel Viola Baker Pritchard. She married William Stewart Finney, Sr. at her parents home near Dunlap on August 31, 1947. They were married 67 years. William preceded her in death July 19, 2015.
Survivors include: son, William Stewart Finney, Jr., and wife Carrie of Emporia; daughter, Wilma Jeanne (Dawes) Schmidt and husband Danny of Olpe, Kansas; brother, Leroy Pritchard of Emporia; sister, Naomi Wingert of Emporia; grandchildren, Jason Dawes of Emporia and Mendy Ramos of Guymon, Oklahoma; step-grandchildren, Brian and John Schmidt, and Brenda Wagner; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Brevin, and Jacyn Dawes, and Nicholas, Tiana, Gabrielle, and Isabelle Ramos; nine step-great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandsons and one great-great-granddaughter, one step-great-great-grandson; and two step-great-great-granddaughters.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Wilber and Mabel Pritchard and son-in-law, J.D. Dawes.
Wilma attended Kahola Valley Elementary School, Dunlap Elementary, and graduated from Dunlap High. She was a member of the Dunlap Methodist Church before joining the Americus Presbyterian Church. Wilma was a member of the Kahola Valley 4-H Club and Social Club, and Chase and Lyon County Home Demonstration Units. She was a community leader of Frost 4-H Club, a member and officer of RFD Mixers, a member of Rosean Social Club for over 50 years, and served as officer for many years.
She and her husband moved to a farm north of Emporia and raised livestock and farmed for over 60 years. Wilma enjoyed raising beautiful flowers and gardening. She was well known for entering flowers and garden produce at the county fair. Her specialty was gladiolas and the old fashioned coxcomb.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Monday, November 23, 2015 at the Americus Presbyterian Church, Americus, with burial following at Rosean Cemetery, Emporia.
Visitation will be from 2:00 to 3:00 P.M., Sunday, November 22, 2015 at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Americus Presbyterian Church or the Morris County Historical Society for the Dunlap Church.
