Jean Witherspoon, 91, Emporia, Kansas, died at her home on Sunday, September 18, 2016.
Winifred Jean Arndt was born in Emporia on February 26, 1925, the daughter of Alouis Theodore and Isabelle Sarah Flott Arndt. Jean married Frank Ernest Witherspoon August 20, 1947 in Emporia. He died June 25, 2006.
Surviving family members include her daughter, Lois Burd and her husband, Craig, Emporia; son, Donald Witherspoon and his wife, Darlene, Emporia; brother, Frank Arndt, Emporia; and sisters, Ellen Heins and Isabelle Spellman, both in Emporia; five grandchildren, Mark Witherspoon (Justine), Lisa Storrer (Ryan), Kim Botkin (Heath), Ryan Burd, and Melanie Kvas (Jeremiah), as well as seven great-grandchildren, Deryk and Dayne Withspoon, Ashley and Lindsay Storrer, Taylor, Riley, and Jarrett Botkin, and Krew and Kasen Kvas.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank; daughter, Carol; brothers, Robert “Bud” and Clarence; and an infant sister, Helen.
Jean was a graduate of Emporia High School and the Emporia Business College. She was a bookkeeper at Didde Glaser until 1982. Jean enjoyed Friday nights with friends at the Olpe Chicken House, and rides and storytelling with her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Thursday, September 22 at 10:30 A.M. at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, Emporia. The service will be conducted by Pastor Norbert Tegtmeier, Messiah Lutheran Church. Interment will be in Memorial Lawn Cemetery, Emporia.
