Gerald Russell Sweet, 83 years old, died September 5, 2025, at the University of Kansas Hospice House in Olathe, Kansas.
Gerald was born on April 25, 1942, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, the son of William Russell and Lorene (Hoch) Sweet. Gerald graduated from Emporia High School, and was a farmer and a truck driver, retiring after 30 years. He married DeeAnn Lee Hogan on November 20, 1981 in Wichita, Kansas. She died on April 7, 2007, in Emporia, Kansas.
Survivors include his son, Don (Michelle) Sweet, Zephyrhills, Florida; stepson Dave Hogan, Olathe, Kansas; stepdaughter Heather (Scott) Townsend, Olathe, Kansas; sister Sylvia Bechteld, Kansas City, Missouri; and grandchildren Taylor & Kaitlyn Sweet, Kelsie & Travis Clifton, Kiley & Madison Loverso, Kenzie Sweet, Jessica Keffer, Drew Keffer, Brock Townsend, Kaelee Townsend, Jake Hogan and Cami Hogan.
He is preceded in death by his wife DeeAnn Lee Hogan-Sweet, son David Russell Sweet, stepdaughter Candace Hogan-Moore, his parents and grandparents.
Gerald loved playing pool, and could always be found cheering on the Kansas City Royals and the Kansas City Chiefs.
Graveside funeral services will be held Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 A.M., at the Patio Garden at Maplewood Memorial Lawn Cemetery, 2000 Prairie Street, Emporia, Kansas, 66801. The family will receive friends the evening before at Roberts-Blue-Barnett Funeral Home, 605 State Street, Emporia, Kansas, 66801 from 5:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M.
